BLISSFULLY CREATING AGAIN

I don't know about you but holiday weeks really throw me off. I get confused as to what day it is. It happened again last week. I forgot when Monday was and totally missed posting for Mandala Monday. Well... it has been busy. I am preparing the fall catalog of events, courses and clubs at the Leesburg Center for the Arts. I blissfully created an awesome new after school series for teens called Creativity Works for Teens. It incorporates art, movement, percussion, storytelling and improv. It starts in September. And in August we begin a monthly chill-out lounge event on the 3rd Wednesday evenings that mixes open studio with open mic. I will post the flyer closer to the date.

MANDALA ON CANVAS PAINT NIGHT - DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS TUESDAY JULY 10, 2018

I am also preparing the High School Summer Art Camp. That begins the 23rd of this month. I am challenging the students with mew mediums We are going to be using paper pulp. I am making some samples now of one of our projects - a grid of character heads. I will post a little video below.

But for now let's talk about MANDALA ON CANVAS PAINT NITE because the deadline to sign up is tomorrow. I personally line out the canvases so if you want to come and Sip & Craft you better get moving. https://tinyurl.com/mandalajuly11

OH AND FRIDAY JULY 6TH WAS FRIDA KAHLO'S BIRTHDAY - WE HAD AN BRILLIANT COFFEE & CONVOS IN THE GALLERY. HAVE AN ARTFUL TOPIC? WE NEED HOST FOR THE FALL. LET'S TALK.

That's it for now - much to do - have to run! :)
Have a great week!

DECORATIVE PAINTED MANDALA TABLES

I thought summer was supposed to be less busy. NOT. But it is still fun! When I've been able to catch a spare moment or two I have been painting up some samples for a "Decorative Painted Furniture" workshop. This workshop is similar to a MANDALA CANVAS PAINT NITE (check the link as I have one coming up July 11th at the Leesburg Center for the Arts) except that the surface we paint is a table top The table and paint are included in the workshop fee.

step one - picking a color scheme and starting to fill in
The three legged side table is primed in white and the basic design is all lined out ready for your mandala artistry. Similar to a paint nite the atmosphere is super friendly and chill. The cost is a bit more than a canvas paint nite (of course - you're taking home a side table) and it runs longer than two hours. The workshop may be scheduled on a weekend or simply start earlier and finish later. Space is always limited and pre-paying is REQUIRED. (I don't carry around extra tables.) Last minute sign ups are discouraged and drop ins will not be accepted.

step 2 - completely filling in the template
THE NEXT STEP MAKES IT AWESOME!!!
YOUR DETAILING!!!!
SUPER COOL RIGHT?

If you are in the Lake Count,y FL area contact me and let's see if our schedules match.

IT IS TIME TO PAINT!

WINE, INSPIRATION & ART

We had a full house for my Mandala Drawing workshop at Mt Dora's Modernism Museum this last weekend. Wine, Inspiration & Art abounded. Here are a few photos of the fun.

Although we did not have time enough to add too much detailing over the color, all the participants could take their artwork home and continue to embellish. One woman said she was going to teach this to her seniors at her center. I laughed, "You are stealing my job." All in good fun. In fact, I suggested for her seniors she should take note of their dexterity. Many seniors with arthritis in their hands would find the compass difficult to use. While still utilizing the mandala design concept she could switch it up for them and provide a template. Or she could have them create circular designs in many colors using watercolors and sponging. The ideas are limitless. The most important part is getting people to participate happily in the art process.

And as for stealing my job...(insert smile) I have more mandala workshops coming up this summer. One of which will be painting Mandalas on Canvas at the Leesburg Center for the Arts in July. I will be announcing registration details in my next blog post.

Chau 4 now!

PS: David Bowie's Memphis Collection is currently at the Modernism Museum. Why not head over there next Saturday and check it out.

MODERNISM MEETS MANDALAS

This is a short post. It is a long weekend (Memorial Day) and I am busily preparing for several classes that I am teaching online and in person. I am also instigating (I like that word. It sounds mischievous) some cool new programs at the Leesburg Center for the Arts. They will show on the new website soon. Please be patient.

And now here is the GIG REMINDER

Before Leibovitz, there was Jini... Her Aim Is True brings together musicians and rock photographers in an inspiring and unforgettable journey revealing unlikely rock 'n' roll photographer, Jini Dellaccio who visualized punk before it had a name and embodied indie before it was cool. In 1964, a middle-aged Dellaccio began hanging out with raucous garage bands in her backyard, creating innovative album covers.

SPINNING ANOTHER RECORD

We have been having several days full of rain lately so I had limited time in my garden but got a chance to do more experimenting with vinyl records. (BTW - The crayon experiment IMHO was a BIG FAIL.) I am so glad I had the time this weekend to play because now I am inundated with design work. Things can change in an instant. When the market calls I respond.

The last experiment that I was able to perform was this string art record.

I felt that my drill wasn't getting enough play time. Using my trusty protractor, ruler and pencil I made some marks where to drill holes and VOILA - string art. Those are those paper fasteners holding the yarn in place. It was much easier than threading yarn through each hole. I like the concept a lot.

Saturday I wrapped my laundry room in plastic tablecloths and really got my hands in the paint. I adapted a plastic lazy susan so as to spin some records with acrylic pours. It was definitely messy BUT SO MUCH FUN! Check it out >>>>  AND KEEP PLAYING!
